2008 Holiday Reservations

Service members vacationing in idyllic Garmisch, Germany during the holiday season is a time-honored tradition dating back over 60 years of AFRC history. With traditional Bavarian Christmas markets, snow covered Alpine peaks and the smell of hot chocolate filling the air, The Edelweiss Lodge and Resort is an ideal location to spend a memorable Christmas or New Year’s family vacation.

To better serve Resort guests during the 2008 Holiday season, the Edelweiss Resort Vacation Planning Center has developed a new online reservation request form to handle the high demand for the limited amount of reservations possible at the 330 room resort destination. The lottery type request form will be open to eligible service members and their families, and other authorized guests from May 1 – May 31, 2008 and will be the only means to reserve for dates between 21 December 2008 – 4 January, 2009. The form is a request for reservations, not a confirmed reservation. Final confirmed reservations will be sent via email on the 14th of July providing plenty of time for additional travel plans.

“We wanted the new reservation lottery to be in-line with the reality that our service member guests may not know where they will be a year from now, or even if they will be able to take leave during that timeframe. By pushing back the reservation process until spring it gives those service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, along with those stationed in Europe the opportunity to potentially visit the Resort when otherwise, under the old system, rooms would have already been booked earlier in the year” said Richard LeBrun, General Manager of the Edelweiss Resort.

In previous years, Edelweiss Resort accepted reservations only over the phone. The overwhelming demand created tremendous on hold wait times, and due to system overload inadvertent dropped calls.   “We want to make the reservation process as easy and as fair for all service members that are either currently serving downrange, or stationed anywhere worldwide,” stated Mr. LeBrun.
